Our in class discussions or “parlors” as we called them, were a fundamental part of building this Reader’s Guide. The discussions we had in class tended to focus on Sherry Turkle’s book Reclaiming Conversation and the (mostly detrimental) effect technology is having on our ability to communicate with one another. It was during these discussions that I first started thinking about doing research on how technology affects children. I mentioned the parlors and my newfound interest in technology’s impact on kids in a blog post (classically) titled “This Is The Darkest Timeline.”

The parlors I participated in with my classmates helped open up my mind to research and I definitely think made me ready to get started on the Inquiry Project. I always left the classroom feeling inspired and newly interested in a topic. The parlors definitely deserve at least some credit for the making of this Reader’s Guide.
